Reporters Without Borders criticises Tunisia

PARIS (AP) - Media watchdog Reporters Without Borders has criticized the detention of a Tunisian journalist and a violent attack on another.

The group says Taoufik Ben Brik was detained on Thursday for allegedly harassing a woman on the street. The group said in a statement Thursday it appeared the allegations were trumped up in an effort to muzzle Ben Brik, who is known as a critic of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

Independent journalist Slim Boukhdhir was attacked by a group of men on Wednesday, hours after he gave a critical interview to the BBC.

The Paris-based group called on the "international community to react to this behavior, which is befitting of a mafia regime."

Ben Ali was re-elected for a fifth term with 89 percent of the vote on Sunday.
