NY Yankees fans celebrate World Series win

By VIRGINIA BYRNE Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK (AP) - Yankees fans in New York City are reveling in the team's 27th World Series championship.

Hundreds watched the Yankees' Game 6 victory Wednesday at Stout, a sports bar near Madison Square Garden in Manhattan.

The three-level bar was packed with fans in Yankees jerseys and hats hanging on every pitch as they watched on the bar's flat-screen televisions.

Yankees fans, including visitors from as far away as San Diego, enjoyed the outcome.

Hideki Matsui's record-tying six RBIs helped the Yankees to the 7-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. New York won the series 4-2.

Fans had waited nine years since the team's last World Series win, a Subway Series against their cross-town rivals, the Mets, in 2000.
