FDA concerned dissolvable tobacco appeals to kids

(AP) - The Food and Drug Administration is saying in letters to two tobacco companies that flavored, dissolvable tobacco products - that the agency compares with candy and says contain a lot of nicotine - could be particularly appealing to kids and young adults.

ATF stings put 250M illegal cigarettes on streets
By MATTHEW BARAKAT Associated Press Writer FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) - An Associated Press review has found that undercover ATF agents in Virginia have put more than 250 million cigarettes onto the streets in the past three years in sting operations targeting smugglers.

Judge: FDA cannot regulate electronic cigarettes
WASHINGTON (AP) - A federal judge says the Food and Drug Administration overstepped its authority in recent efforts to regulate electronic cigarettes. U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon sided with two electronic suppliers, Smoking Everywhere and NJOY, in their lawsuit against the FDA.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - California's top cop is seeking to halt the sale of one company's electronic cigarettes in the state, saying they contain dangerous chemicals and are being marketed to children.

Wis. lawmakers reject plan to fight candy tobacco
By RYAN J. FOLEY Associated Press Writer MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin lawmakers on Thursday rejected a health department proposal to use $3 million in stimulus funding to lobby for a statewide ban on candy- and fruit-flavored tobacco products.
